The regular season may be underway for most of the Division 1 lacrosse world, but for teams in the Ivy League, Saturday was just the first official day of practice.
What better way to kick things off than to get right into the thick of competition with an opponent that has already been practicing? Yale welcomed UMass to Reese Stadium for a scrimmage. While no official score was kept, tallying stats show that Yale won the day, 18-13.
Yale welcomed back multiple stars to the lineup. Leo Johnson (Greenwich, Conn.) and Chris Lyons, two of Yale’s top weapons, started at attack after missing last season with injuries.
Brad Sharp ran on the first-line midfield; he also was out all of last season. Yale coach Andy Shay also said that face-off specialist Machado Rodriguez could have played, but there was no reason to rush him back.
