The first round of the Rhode Island Interscholastic League playoffs kicked off in earnest on Friday with the start of the Division 1 tournament.
While No. 1 seed and perennial champion La Salle Academy, and No. 2 seed Moses Brown earned byes into the semifinals, the two first-round games were exciting ones, both decided by a single goal.
When the dust settled, sixth-seeded Bishop Hendricken was the only road team to win, taking down No. 3 seed Barrington, 11-10, to earn a semifinal against Moses Brown on Tuesday.
Hendricken found itself down 3-0 early. Senior left-hander Nick Spaight got underneath underneath his defender on the left wing to score, then set up sophomore Patrick McNamara.
