Darien was losing to rival New Canaan 5-1 late in the third quarter of the CIAC Class LL championship game on June 15, with Rams goalie Ceci Patterson dominating; she had 10 saves against only one goal allowed.
Darien coach Lisa Lindley called a time-out.
“This is it, girls,” she said. “You are losing this game unless you score one goal in the third, and then I know you can score four in the fourth.”
Her players followed through, scoring two in the third quarter and three more in the fourth to come back and win the championship, 6-5.
