Two weeks ago, Sol Ortiz DeRosa became the first girls lacrosse player in recent Lexington (Mass.) High School memory to commit to a Division 1 college.
And not just any college – to Penn, a gold standard in the Ivy League that last spring reached the quarterfinals of the NCAA tournament.
She was justifiably proud. But she also wanted to talk about her Lexington soccer team and its 7-1 start.
“It was freshman year, when I started getting more recognition as a lacrosse player,” she said. “Until then, I always saw myself as a soccer player.”
