When Berkshire School’s 10-game unbeaten run to open the season was halted emphatically by Hotchkiss last week, coach Casey Lyons was disappointed, but also curious to see the reaction of her players.
She liked what she saw.
“They felt the sting after the game,” she said, “but they showed up the next day, raring to go. … It’s a special group. It’s fun to show up to practice every day.”
Berkshire has been one of pleasant surprises of this prep season. A series of close, solid wins against Choate (9-8), Taft (8-6) and Williston Northampton (7-6) in early April set the trajectory of the season, and the Bears (11-1) have already matched last season’s win total with four games to play.
