Marshwood High School took home the program’s first state title after an 8-7 thriller over York in the Maine Class B championship game last weekend.
Marshwood senior Hayden Demeroto netted the game-winner with just 39.1 seconds left in the game.
The season for fourth-seeded Marshwood represented a shocking turnaround after the Hawks finished 3-11 in 2025. After four years of serving as an assistant coach, Adrian Ward took the helm as head coach this spring.
Regarding the difference in performance year-over-year, Ward said, “I credit the environment. What we specifically did was have the kids feel like they had more of a say.
