Rice Memorial, the No. 1 seed in the Division 1 tournament, entered the championship game against Burr and Burton with some nerves – and found itself down at halftime.
The break proved to be a good time to collect themselves, however, as the team fought back to win the game, 8-7, and finish the season undefeated.
It was the team’s first state championship since 2013, first championship since moving to Division 1 and first time finishing an entire season without a loss.
Burr and Burton took control of the game early on behind star senior midfielder Radley Cherosnick, who scored a hat trick in the second quarter to give the Bulldogs a 6-4 lead at halftime.
