When Allie Zorn (Bedford, Mass.) was in the eighth grade, a Massachusetts exception rule at the time allowed her and some of her classmates to join the high school varsity lacrosse team a year early.
At the time, the high school program in Bedford was bereft of players and still struggling to compete. Yet for Zorn, the early eligibility served as a catalyst that accelerated her progress as a player.
“There have been a lot of rule changes since then but it was allowed that year,” she recalled. “I think back on how much that experience built my love for the game. We were terrible.
“To progress from that to then eventually reach the (MIAA Division 2) championship my senior year against Notre Dame Academy (in 2022), it was an experience that I give a lot of credit to in terms of forming me.”
