At the conclusion of the Founders League championship game last year, after Loomis Chaffee had beaten Taft, 14-7, coach Bill Ball described a sense of elation.
When the final horn sounded again on Wednesday, and Loomis Chaffee was the champion for a second consecutive season following a thrilling, 8-7 victory over Choate, Ball called it a sense of relief.
Expectations entering the season might have been high, yet the Pelicans still over-delivered, finishing with a 16-1 record, going undefeated against Founders League teams and claiming a second league title.
It was something that had been building.
