With a convincing, 12-9 win over favored and top-seeded Kennebunk, Windham took home its first Class A state title.
With the win, the Windham squad finished its season at 17-1 – and also accomplished a rarity in Maine.
“The coastal teams have been the dominant teams in the state for a long time,” said Matt Perkins, the head coach at Windham since 2014. “It’s pretty rare that an inland team will win.”
For Perkins, a key to his team’s title game win was a long memory. Its only loss of the season came at the hands of Kennebunk in the first game of the year.
