Two years ago, girls lacrosse teams from Central Catholic and Wellesley met in the quarterfinals of the MIAA Division 1 tournament.
Under new coach Vanessa Pino, who was then in her first season at CCHS, the Raiders were talented but young, relying heavily on their strong sophomores, plus a promising freshman or two.
Wellesley, by contrast, was a veteran team, led by All-American senior Alanna Dumalac, who is now playing at Davidson.
It was also the better team that day, winning 16-7 on its way to the state final that it would ultimately lose to Westwood.
