
After eight Independent School League championships won or shared from 2006 through 2018, the trophy case at Governor’s Academy hasn’t collected any new hardware in recent years.
There were the back-to-back runner-up finishes in 2022 and 2023, the first two years of the championship tournament era, followed by losses in the quarterfinals the next two years.
In 2025, the team lost its first two games and four of its first six games. Coach Tucker Sampson said the goal every year, but particularly this year, is to start the season faster.
That means doing as much work in the offseason – hitting the weight room, doing individual stick work, participating in captains’ practices and maintaining strong grades in the classroom – so the team can hit the ground running when the season starts.
