The margin of error at the prep level is small, and Taft experienced both ends of that spectrum during its spring break trip with a thrilling overtime victory against Georgetown Prep and a tough loss against St. John’s College.
“We are fortunate we have a lot of talent. We have a lot of committed guys, but so do the teams we play,” said Taft coach Max Rosner.
“Just because you have those things, just because you’re ranked, just because you have a good first quarter, if you don’t execute the little things … the margin for error is really small, particularly against the best teams.”
In the past, Taft has gone to Florida for spring break. On those trips, the team would play scrimmages, but those contests had different feels than regular games, and Rosner said despite the team playing well in the scrimmages, it would go back for the season and play nervously.
