If I was the king of lacrosse for a day and could change one thing about the game, I’d mandate a pregame handshake.
Wish the other team good luck, thank them for coming together so you can have the shared experience in the game we love, then go out and play hard.
Yes, cheer the other team — and maybe their fans and your supporters, too — when the game is done, and go find any friends on the other team for a friendly catch-up before everyone goes home, but celebrate coming together.
With a pregame handshake ritual, no one feels like they must kowtow to the winner of a game. No one gets carried away with the emotions of the day.
