Not all lacrosse seasons are capped by triumphant wins and losses. Sometimes, the mark of a successful season is simply laying the groundwork for future achievement.
This is the case for Austin Prep, which spent last spring in what head coach Alfonse Femino described as largely a building year.
Austin Prep was one of two new teams to join the New England School Lacrosse League in 2025, having spent nearly 50 years in the MIAA before making the jump to the NEPSAC in 2022. While 2025 was its first year in the NESLL (ending with a 7-15 overall record), it wasn’t its first time playing the teams within the league.
“We’re familiar with the strength, tradition and overall type of program that we’re playing against,” explained Femino, noting that last year's senior class was the first to have four years of experience in the NEPSAC.
