It’s not that I don’t love watching great players at their best. It’s just that having a dominant player is no guarantee of victory.
Great players can take over a game for a stretch, do amazing things with the ball, shut down a top opponent, and come up with the big play at clutch times. But it’s not hard to find players with gaudy statistics playing on average or below-average teams. They’re skilled and admired, but they can’t — by themselves — deliver wins.
